Food security skill training


  • eThembeni (CMD Usizo Aids Trust) is running women empowerment programs in the municipalities of uKhahkamba, Mnambithi, Ndaka and Msinga.
  •  The program, with one full time staff member and 7 facilitators, impacts on the lives of 1200 rural unemployed women who wish to better their circumstances at home. The program is linked to Umazisize (To help yourself).
  • Foundations for Farming Training is the partner used to address the food security crisis in rural communities.
  •  Training will be offered at Jabulani. The successes here must serve as a role model and inspiration to the women.

 Wish list for the women empowerment program:

  • Two tunnels for vegetable production to be established.
  • Gardening under shade cloth to be established.
  • Food produced in training sessions to be made available for catering needs at youth camp site.
  • The dam needs to be enlarged in order to guarantee a sustainable source of water for the food gardens.
  • Training to include mushroom and soya cultivation, beekeeping, fish farming, calve rearing and proficiency in producing marketable traditional hand crafts.

 Already established:

  • Tunnels for vegetable planting
  • Shaded cloth gardens
  • Soil tests were done to look at viability of Soya production.
